KCC Club Cycle 2015
Keeper Cycling Club had their first club cycle on Sunday 10th May 2015 and it proved to be an outstanding day for both supporters of the event and volunteers who gave their time and effort, much appreciated. Contributions were made to two organisations, Milford Hospice, through Murty’s Challenge and Newport College.

The day began at 7am, when Pat Wixted, BigWheelCycles, opened up the gates to Newport College in preparation for the event, thanks to Newport College for providing such wonderful facilities, especially Seamus, who was a great help throughout the day. He was soon followed by other club memebes, Tony Ryan, Caroline Hayes, Tess Duffy, Carol Wixted, Adrian O’Brien, Louise Spaight, Michelle Kennedy, Patsey Kennedy, Brid Nolan and June O’ Gorman but to mention a few, collecting and organising the community hall for the days event.

Food started to appear from everywhere, all member contributed. The cakes started to pile up, a sight to behold.

The registration desk was opened at 8:30am and initially demand was slow, however by 9am, numbers had increased dramatically and we were run off our feet. In the end, 84 riders had registered for the cycle, a great success. Thanks to all the participants as without them, we would have had no event. All relaxed in the hall and discussed tactics for the day along with having tea and coffee.

First Start

Tony Ryan had the honour of preparing and giving the starting orders to the first Keeper Cycling Club Open Cycle Event. He discussed safety and how all junctions were marshalled for the event, thanks to the great work of Martin Ryan and Joe Fitzgerald. The whistle was blown and finally they left the College grounds and headed off on the route. Weather was cool but dry, ideal for cycling.

Finish 110K Event

The End of the 110K Event, with the weather turning for the worse, rain and cold. However, all sucessfully completed and appeared to be in high spirits. Well done to the 3 riders from the Raperee Cycle Club who finished the event first and well done to Pat Spaight first home for Keeper Cycling Club. Also a special mention for all riders who completed both events contradulations and thanks for turning out in such great numbers.

That closes the 2015 Club Cycle, but again lots of thanks to all of those who helped with the smooth running of the event, those who prepared food, helped with the organisation and those who supported in great numbers. Thanks to the shops in Newport who sponsored food and drinks, we really appreciate it, Ryan’s Bar, Gullies Shop, Sweeney’s Garage etc. Hope to see you all for next years event.
